Montauk Point Lighthouse is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States and the first to be built in New York State. It was commissioned by President George Washington in 1792, and was constructed in 1796. The lighthouse is located in Montauk Point State Park in Long Island.

Can you tell if the lighthouse still has a red band? It appears darker in the photo.

DeleteI went to the website I included in the post and saw some photos of the lighthouse. It does look like the band is a somewhat darker brownish red color like this photo. I guess the postcard isn't an exact likeness of the lighthouse. Or who knows, maybe that's how it looked way back when the postcard was published. =)
