The Greystone Hotel – New York City
This is the Greystone Hotel located at 212 West 91st Street in New York City.
My grandparents, Debs and Willis Webster and their family, stayed at this hotel after they arrived in the United States. The family had emigrated from Brazil, and had been sailing for a couple of weeks on the ocean liner The S.S. Brazil on their way to a new life in the U.S.A.
My mom remembers that their room was on an upper floor and there was no air conditioning. They arrived on July 21, 1952 and my mom remembers that it was so hot.
Originally built as a stately hotel in 1923, the Greystone Hotel is now an apartment building. Here's their website - Greystone.
This is a current view of the Greystone using the newest version of Google Maps.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Eowyn,
DeleteThank you so much! I'm honored to have you follow along.
No air conditioning?? Ugh!
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy,
DeleteI know right? That doesn't sound very fun. I'll bet the Greystone has air conditioning now that it's been converted into an apartment building.
I lived in the Greystone in the late 1990s when I attended grad school at Columbia University's Teachers College. The school leased housing there. It had not been renovated and still did not have air conditioning. I was on a lower floor but it was still hot as fire in the summer!
