Date Gardens On The Desert
This is a Curt Teich Art-Colortone vintage postcard from 1943. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where or when my grandparents purchased this postcard. It wasn't included in my grandparents' 1952 scrapbook which documented their trip across the United States that summer.
But it is quite interesting. It actually looks like some kind of date tree farm with all of those neatly planted rows of date palm trees.
Thanks for stopping by!

I am almost certain that this is from the Oasis Date Gardens in Thermal CA, which was established in 1912... but there's still a smaller chance, in my opinion, that the post card came from Shields Date Gardens in Indio CA established in 1924... so it's almost a toss up, but I think that these trees are so mature that they were planted earlier than 1924. And yes, it's a doctored (painted) photo.
ReplyDeleteHi Brent,
DeleteThank you so much for this information and for the research you did. You're such a great brother!
I'm pretty sure I've never seen a date plant before, nor have I ever considered what they might look like. The picture reminds me of a row of fancy lamps.
