The Greystone Hotel – New York City
This is the Greystone Hotel located at 212 West 91st Street in New York City.
My grandparents, Debs and Willis Webster and their family, stayed at this hotel after they arrived in the United States. The family had emigrated from Brazil, and had been sailing for a couple of weeks on the ocean liner The S.S. Brazil on their way to a new life in the U.S.A.
My mom remembers that their room was on an upper floor and there was no air conditioning. They arrived on July 21, 1952 and my mom remembers that it was so hot.
Originally built as a stately hotel in 1923, the Greystone Hotel is now an apartment building. Here's their website - Greystone.
This is a current view of the Greystone using the newest version of Google Maps.

The S.S. Brazil
This postcard was purchased when my maternal grandparents Debs and Willis Webster and their family immigrated to the United States from Brazil in 1952. They came to the U.S.A. on The S.S. Brazil, which was an ocean liner operated by Moore-McCormack Lines. If you'd like to see some interesting brochures by Moore-McCormack Lines, click HERE.
I've written about my grandparent's immigration story on my other blog, Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog. You can read the Debs Webster Family Immigration Story by clicking HERE.

Welcome to Grandpa's Postcards
Webster Family June 10, 1952 Sao Paulo, Brazil |
Welcome to Grandpa's Postcards!
In the summer of 1952, my maternal grandfather, Debs Warren Webster, and his family, emigrated from Brazil to the United States. They traveled on the ocean liner, The S.S. Brazil. After arriving in New York, Debs and his family bought a car and some camping equipment and traveled across the United States to California. Debs took lots of photos and the family collected postcards along their way.
My grandparents collected many more postcards during their lives.
This blog is dedicated to sharing my grandparents' vintage postcard collection.
